President and CEO
For over 25 years, Dr. Sterns has specialized in issues of and research on improving health care delivery to older adults and long term care (LTC) residents. She conducts Continuing Education training classes and in-services for clinical, rehab and activity staff in skilled nursing, assisted living, adult day care centers and home health agencies across the U.S. and in Canada. Topics focus on and how to develop and implement innovative therapeutic interventions and ways to improve communication between staff and residents who do not share a common language.
Dr. Sterns has served as Principal Investigator on numerous NIH NIA-funded studies. Research has focused on developing interventions for better quality of life for residents, job satisfaction for staff, and improving the bottom line for facilities; enhancing care delivery when residents and staff do not share the same language; and delivering training in "LTC English and cultural competence" for LTC staff with limited proficiency in English. She has authored and co-authored book publications in peer-reviewed journals and is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences.
Dr. Sterns has held previous positions with Mattel, Inc., Rubbermaid, Inc., and Wyse Advertising. She holds a BA and MA in Anthropology, from the University of Buffalo and Kent State University respectively, and a PhD in Sociology from the University of Akron.
Vice President of Research and Marketing
Dr. Sterns has over 15 years experience in research management and new product and service development. He has raised over $10 million in funding from the Department of Defense, NIH, and Department of Education including serving as Principal Investigator for the national grants. He is the Statistician and Research Design Consultant and Visiting Associate Professor for the College of Nursing at Kent State University. His education includes a BS in Engineering from The University of Michigan and PhD in Industrial Organization Psychology and a Graduate Certificate of Gerontology from The University of Akron.
Vice President of Business Development
Dr. Sterns special focus in on behavioral intervention in long-term care, training and retraining, career development, work and retirement adjustment. Dr. Sterns has received many awards for his work in applied gerontology and aging. Author and editor of text books and peer-reviewed articles, Dr. Sterns is a frequent invited speaker on cognitive aging, therapeutic interventions and aging and work.
Dr. Harvey L. Sterns is Professor of Psychology, Director of the Institute for Life-Span Development and Gerontology at The University of Akron and Research Professor of Gerontology at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and Pharmacy. Founding Co-Director of the Western Reserve Geriatric Education Center, he has served as president of Division 20 Adult Development and Aging of the American Psychological Association and Association of Gerontology and Higher Education. A CCRC board of trustee member for over 30 years, Dr. Sterns is also a Research Fellow of the Sloan Center on Aging and Work at Boston College. He holds a BA in Psychology from Bard College, an MA in Psychology from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and a PhD in LIfe Span Developmental Psychology from the University of West Virginia.
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Salhany currently serves as a manager for Cohen and Co. He performs CFO services for smaller clients establishing accounting systems, inventory controls, budgets and forecasts. He also assists with financing, cost reduction and operations. Mr. Salhany has served as CFO for a public company and two privately held companies over the past 21 years and successfully started his own business.
Ms. Morckel serves as the Executive Administrator for Creative Action LLC. She is oversees accounting activities, shipping activities, and day-to-day operations of the organization.
